Hurricanes set for busy weekend versus Tommies

The Holland Hurricanes men’s and women’s volleyball teams will be on the road this weekend to take on the STU Tommies in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

The action begins on Saturday at 5:30 and 7:30pm (w/m) followed by two more matches on Sunday, with the women playing at 12pm and the men to follow at 2pm.

The women’s Hurricanes are off to a 4-2 start to the regular season and sit in a tie for third in the ACAA standings, while the Tommies are in sixth with a 2-5 record. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Hurricanes libero, Katie Wood, sits fourth in the conference in digs per set with 3.19, while Brittany States comes into the weekend needing 14 kills to become the new career record holder for the women’s volleyball Hurricanes.

On the men’s side, the Hurricanes enter play tied for second in the ACAA with a 2-2 record, while the Tommies lead the way at 4-0. This is the first of five meetings between the ‘Canes and Tommies this regular season.

The men’s Hurricanes are leading the ACAA in kills per set with 10.06.  Individually the attack is led by Brett Butler who sits atop the conference with 3.71 kills per set.

The women’s Hurricanes will play their next home game on Friday, November 30 when they host the Mount Allison Mounties, while both the men and women will finish their 2018 by hosting the UNBSJ Seawolves on Sunday, December 2.
